"Never presume August is a safe or reliable time of year. It is the season of reversals, when birds no longer sing in the morning and the evenings are made up of equal parts golden light and black clouds." Alice Hoffman, from the book 'Practical Magic,' one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors.
This is an area on Highway 18, just as you're coming into Rim Forest. You can see this from the turnout at Red Rock Wall (although you need a good zoom lens), and sometimes the light there is spectacular.
Love love love practical magic the book AND the movie! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteVictoria!! I thought this was a painting by an old American Painter! Such a beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteYou really do live in a fairyland. No, wait... you live in an oil painting. Stunning, truly.
Beautiful quote. Even though it is a reversal down here, I can feel the subtle change that August brings as winter still holds fast... just.
I love the movie, too, Deb. I didn't think I would when I heard about it being made into a movie, but happily I was wrong!
ReplyDeleteVicki, it's the light up in these mountains. I think the light might be so magical because these mountains run east to west, instead of north to south, and they're surrounded by desert. Or, something like that, I'm not really sure...but I am sure it is a magical place. I'm happy you liked the photo, thank you!
I loved PRACTICAL MAGIC -- and now I feel the need to reread!
