It's National Dog Day!

This is my darling Bonnie Lee.  She's been in Heaven for several years but, of course, I still miss her. I don't think we ever stop missing those who have gone on ahead of us.  Bonnie was a Shepherd/Dobie mix, and such a sweet girl.  I desperately want another dog, but the cats we adopted after Bonnie left have never seen a dog up close.  They're terrified if they even hear a dog bark.

Anyway, if you have a dog, give them extra hugs today!  And, if you don't have a dog, maybe you could save a stray or adopt one from a shelter or just donate several bags of dog food and blankets to a shelter.

  1. She looks lovely! I still miss my two dear departed dogs. I can't wait until I have my own home and can adopt a couple of shelter dogs!

  2. Aww, Bonnie Lee - such a beautiful girl.
That special soul connection between an animal and their human is so very strong...

Thank you for this post, Victoria. And, even tho' it's not National Dog Day here officially in Aust - it is every day for my Jack :)

And, the day celebrates the landmark ruling by the Oregon Supreme Court that animals will be seen as legal “victims” in a case, affording them more rights when it comes to cases of abuse and neglect.
Every little step forward, is a step in the right direction.

Good on you Oregon!! Here's hoping all of the US, then Australia and the rest of the world follow suit - very quickly.

  3. Thank you, Laura, I hope you get your own apartment soon!

Vicki, the Oregon ruling just occured earlier this month; National Dog Day was founded by Colleen Paige in 2004 to honor dogs. www.nationaldogday.com

But I agree with you about Oregon, that state did a wonderful thing for all animals. I'm hoping along with you that the whole world will soon enact similar laws!

And, somehow I knew that in your house everyday is national dog day for darling Jack :) He is so blessed to have you for his human mom!
