Alpenglow

I was down in Redlands (a small town in the San Bernardino valley) last week and caught this beautiful sunset.  This is looking west...
Looking behind me to the east, I realized one of my favorite things was happening...
Alpenglow!
I love it when the sunset colors the snow on the high peaks.  It only lasts for a couple of minutes, at best.  I
looked back to the west...
and snapped a quick (I thought) shot, but by the time I turned back to the east the mountains and the sky had faded into the blue of dusk...
I felt really lucky that I was there to not only see, but get photos of, one of my favorite natural things.

    Hello and welcome to Nature Notes. I love the photos and the color that appears especially as I don't live near anything like that. You certainly love nature and wildlife and all animals.     And how very grateful I am that you were there, to be able to share such incredible beauty!
    I'd never heard of alpenglow. I can imagine the thrill of experiencing such a fleeting moment of magic on the snow covered mountains.

    Wonderful shots! I love the palms! And I'm happy to learn the term alpenglow -- we see it on the Blue Ridge -- quite a distance away but still beautiful.

    Gorgeous shots! I so love the way the sun rising and setting changes colors so quickly. This morning we had fluffy pink clouds and as I returned hone from dropping my hubby at the bus station the sky was golden! Wonderful photos and thank you for sharing them

    It has been a couple weeks of very warm Winter days here in So Cal, so glad you were close enough to capture the Alpenglow of our mountains. Hot, windy days at least reward us with amazing sunsets. Thanks for sharing!
