  4. Vicki, the appearance is deceiving; they're much bigger than they look. The smallest boulder is probably five feet in diameter, while the whole pile is about 35 feet high. They're the top of a lower elevation mountain peak; there are piles like this all over up here. The boulders were once one huge mass and are about 1.7 billion years old; weather extremes fractured them into boulders. These mountains are formed...you know, I'll do a post about this for you. It's pretty amazing stuff, geologically speaking.
