Rain and Snow

It rained all day yesterday, lightly, then, as dusk was settling in, the rain turned to snow!  It snowed for several hours, a heavy, wet snow that caused a few power outages.  But, it's good that it was that kind of snow because it has much more water in it that the dry powder we usually get.  It was mostly all melted by this morning, but since we got about 5 inches I'm calling it the first snow storm of the season.  This is one of the earliest snow storms we've had up here, and I'm really hoping more are on the way!  I don't know if this storm put an end to fire season, but I'm hoping it did.  It was wonderful watching and listening to the rain, then the snow.  Such blessings....

(I apologize for the crummy quality of the photo.  I had just gone out the door to the back porch when I saw all the lights go out and had to go deal with that.  By the time I got done with that, I was too exhausted to do anything but plop down in front of the fire!)

  1. Victoria - so glad that you are getting some moisture and hopefully it does put an end to the fire threat. Those wet snows can be so beautiful. Here it is sunny and the week-end promises to be warm and beautiful. We still have had no frost and this is highly unusual for us. Weather - who can predict it?? Have a great day and stay warm and safe.

  2. Did you really say snow?

Please no, not for a long time, if at all. Rain is quite sufficient for me.

    Snow maroons us.

  3. Hi Friko, I think maybe we're better equipped to handle snow up here because there are so many ski resorts, so the county is forced to have plenty of snowplows (for the roads to the ski resorts, anyway). Snow is 'white gold' to us here because our economy is pretty much supported by tourists. But, I hope you get only rain!

  4. Debbie, you're right, who can predict the weather? I hope we got enough to end fire season...

  5. So glad you got some precipitation. I know the uneasy feeling of a dry spell in autumn and all those dead leaves...and the sigh of relief after a rain.

  6. Oh, so beautiful! And, I hope the fire threat is over now, Victoria.

To sit by a window and watch snow fall would be such a pleasure to me.
    So lovely to see :)
