This and That

I had to go to Lake Arrowhead Village today because I couldn't put off the grocery shopping any longer.  Oh, how I wish I would have remembered they're celebrating Oktoberfest!  What a madhouse.  But, a cool thing about the village is that every October they put a jack-o-lantern on one side of the village clock tower and a witch on the other side -

 I love it!

I took these photos in October of 2011.  I didn't stop to take photos today, it was just too crazy, especially since Gwen Stefani and her family were there.  Crazy paparazzi everywhere, trying to shove cameras in her face and the faces of her children.  I think when celebrities are with their children they should be left alone, especially the children.

Now I'm sitting by the fire, drinking tea and watching Sofia Maria make faces at me.  She's so cute; she actually makes a sound with her little tongue that sounds sort of like "pfffffffffffffffft."  She does this almost every time when I sit down with a book...I think she wants me to pay attention to her instead of my book.  And, of course, I almost always put the book down and pet her.

  1. How wonderful to have such a charming village as your town, Victoria.
And, what a lovely way to decorate the lovely clock tower.
    Ahhh, Halloween. Sigh.

I'm not at all surprised celebrities choose to vacation there.
I agree, there are times when they "go to work" and perform, and are fodder for the cameras. But, family time should definitely be private.

When I enlarged the photo of Sofia Maria, I had such a laugh! What an amazing, sweet character she is :)

  2. Our critters are the same -- very jealous of books or computers. The paw crashes down on the page or keyboard and the furry face says ' See ME!"

  3. Oktoberfest? Is this an old tradition. It looks a bit Bavarian to me.

As for puss, she could just sit on your lap while you read? It would be nice to stroke her at the same time, so soothing and truly relaxing.

  4. Victoria - how cool is that clock that they decorate. Sounds like a lovely place to visit. As for your sweet putty cat - who could resist petting her. Hope you enjoyed tea and good book. Have a great day.

  5. Oh Vicki, I wish it were a real village; this is an outdoor shopping mall/tourist trap whose name is "Lake Arrowhead Village."
I guess if Lake Arrowhead had a town center this would be it, but it doesn't feel like a real village. I'll have to wander through it and take a lot of photos so you can see what I mean. I'm glad you liked the photo of Sofia Maria, she is a true character and just as sweet as her photo looks...most of the time.

Vicki L, I guess all fur babies are the same...

Friko, it is an old tradition modeled on the Bavarian Oktoberfest. It's celebrated in many places in America, but if you came to these mountains you might think you were in Bavaria...except we don't have any castles! And it would be nice if my cats would just sit on my lap while I read, but they want to be the center of attention!

Thanks, Debbie, I did enjoy my tea and book.
