Wednesday's Winding Road

Miss this turn and you'll have over 1,200 feet for your life to flash before your eyes until you hit the ground.  I almost did that one winter day when the road was covered in thick ice.  I felt the back end of my Blazer start to slide so I kept turning in the direction the front end was going.  Happily it worked!  The car made a complete 360 degree circle and then we (the car and I) continued on safely.  During the time we were making a circle this is what went through my mind: "OMG, I'm going over the side, they won't find my body or the car until the spring thaw, oh my poor hus...oh good.  I wonder what should I make for dinner tonight?"

  1. Beautiful shot -- and what a terrifying moment that must have been. And good on you for remembering how to deal with a skid!

  3. Oh lordy! So very glad you kept calm and didn't panic by over-correcting, Victoria. Well done.
And what a tale to tell.
I bet you give that corner a wary glance every time now.

It's amazing what goes through our heads at such times isn't it :)

  5. Vicki L, glad you liked the photo. This skid happened quite a few years ago, but I've never forgotten how to deal with a skid thanks to that skid!

    Thanks, Queenie!

Vicki, there are so many places like the one in the photo up here...the main highway, 18, has puny guardrails, but none of the back roads have them. I guess the County thinks that if you're driving on a back road you must know what you're doing...ha, ha!

    Thanks, Eilis!
