Wordless Wednesday - Thoughtful

  1. This is so beautiful! What a sweetie.

I'm not familiar with all of your birds in the US. Can you tell me what he is? I'd love to know.

And, you take the most amazing photos, Victoria.
I wish I could get my subjects in sharp focus with the background softly blurred - it's lovely :)

  2. The little bird is a Mountain Chickadee. They're very small, only about 2 and a half inches long. Their larger cousins also live up here, the Mexican Chickadee; they are about four inches long. The males and the females of each variety both look alike and they have the most wonderful disposition. They're very cheerful, feisty and courageous; other small birds like them because Chickadees will chase off larger birds with no hesitation.

I took this photo with my Canon Rebel DSLR, but even though I can focus in tightly with it, the background that is the closest to the subject will be in focus, so I had to go in with the 'blur brush' in Photoshop 10 to get the background that was within an eighth of an inch of the Chickadee to be blurry. I hope this helps, and I'm so glad you liked the photo, thank you!
