Frustration and Confusion

I love the Brambly Hedge books by British author Jill Barklem and I just found out that there has been an animated series made.  Imagine my excitement as I thought of the happy hours my great great grand nieces and I could spend watching!  Now, imagine my frustration when I found out they are only available in Britain and other countries that play Region 2 DVD's.  I WAS BORN ON THE WRONG CONTINENT!  I know there are some DVD players that will play DVD's from all regions, but I don't have one.  Oh, well...

Even being in Britain wouldn't have helped me yesterday when, for some inexplicable reason, I thought it was Wednesday, so I posted my 'Wednesday's Winding Roads' on Tuesday.  Again, oh well...at least that wasn't as bad as the time I turned up for work on the 4th of July.  There I sat in my car in an empty parking lot, wondering where the heck everyone else was, then, as time passed, wondering if my watch had gone bonkers, then, as more time passed and I was actually wondering if I had somehow been transported into some other dimension (yes, sadly that's how my brain works), the kindly security guard came out to my car, knocked on the window (scaring me half to death because I was so deep in thought) and asked, "Dear...what are you doing here today?  It's the 4th of July."  The look on my face must have been priceless, because he started laughing.  I have a little better understanding now of why he was laughing so very hard; he was the age I am now and I was in my early twenties!  Oh, well... :-D

  1. I will have to check out those books. I think I will love them!

I have been known to show up for work on my day off so you are not alone in your 'duh' moments. I often laugh at all the silly things I have done in my life.

    Have a blessed day, Viv

  2. I am laughing too, but I have done things like these myself to the utter amusement of my colleagues.

  4. You're not alone in having such moments, Victoria. I've had a fair share of them myself :)

I've always loved the title, "Brambly Hedge" from the books. And wish I could find a little cottage with a rambling garden and name it that :)
How wonderful that there is an animated series! A whole new generation can read and now see the magic.

I too know the frustration of DVD Region codes. Grrr, so annoying!
We are R4 here, and there have been SO many R1 DVDs from the US and UK that I would've loved to buy.
Among them were Jim Henson's, "The Storyteller". I loved watching it on TV with my son when he was little and wanted to relive them on DVD, but they won't play here.

I wish that ALL DVDs and DVD players were universally coded, rather than having to purchase "all region" players :(

  5. Viv, I think you would love them, too. Thank you for telling me that I'm not alone in my 'duh' moments!

    Kyra, thank you, too!

Queenie, I'm glad it made you smile.

Vicki, I wish that all DVDs and their players were universally coded too, it just makes good sense. I would think the DVD industry would find it much easier and that they would probably sell many more DVD's.
