Beautiful Nature

Two pretty sunsets from last week, one taken by Lake Gregory and one taken from Highway 18, also called Rim of the World Highway.  I love sunsets, even though I find them a little melancholy.

But I find fallen acorns very hopeful and life affirming...each one might become a beautiful oak tree, or feed a hungry squirrel!

Winter Sunset

I was over by Lake Arrowhead yesterday evening; the sky looked remarkably similar to this one, which I took in February of 2017.  It started out clear and sunny this morning, but now my little cottage is socked in with fog.  The weather people say we might get 4 inches of snow tonight...I hope they're right!

Peaceful

Evening at Lake Gregory with a few clouds floating around.  So peaceful...except for that photo-bombing bird :D

Sunset, Moonrise

Looking west at a smoky sunset...
When I turned in the opposite direction, I saw a tree holding the moon in its branches!

The Pilot fire is 80% contained and I'm cautiously optimistic that all here in these mountains are out of danger.  I'll be 100% optimistic when the fire is 100% out...

Alpenglow

I was down in Redlands (a small town in the San Bernardino valley) last week and caught this beautiful sunset.  This is looking west...
Looking behind me to the east, I realized one of my favorite things was happening...
Alpenglow!
I love it when the sunset colors the snow on the high peaks.  It only lasts for a couple of minutes, at best.  I
looked back to the west...
and snapped a quick (I thought) shot, but by the time I turned back to the east the mountains and the sky had faded into the blue of dusk...
I felt really lucky that I was there to not only see, but get photos of, one of my favorite natural things.

Summer's End

Well, the summer tourist season is over, anyway.  Summer weather will probably hang on for another month.  Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike summer?  I used to like it, when it only lasted three months like it's supposed to do and our high temperature averaged around 75 F.  Now summer lasts four months, or longer, and our high today was 82 F in the shade!  We got a few plip-plops, drip-drops of rain over the past few days, but it wasn't enough to even measure on the rain gauge.  But, the deserts to the north and south of us got so much rain they flooded.  The frustration!!  Oh well, at least it hasn't gotten up to 100 F like it did last summer.  That is waaaay too hot for this old mountain woman!

Sunday Sunsets

Taken November 8, 2008.  The sun was behind me, obviously, and I liked the way it painted everything with a warm golden light.

Sunday Sunlight

I took this July 27, 2010, down at Lake Gregory in Crestline. It's one of the smallest lakes up here but it's my favorite because it isn't lined with boat docks.
