Wednesday's Winding Path

A little path winding around in the woods near Lake Arrowhead.  This was taken in June 2009...the forest was a lot greener than now.

A Quote For Monday on Tuesday

We are in for a spell of perfect weather now, every day luminous, every night brimmed with stars, picnics at noon, supper by the apple wood fire at night, a walk in the cool moonlight before bed. ~ Gladys Taber

(Gosh...times flies, doesn't it? What happened to Monday?!)

Harvest Moon Eclipse

This moon was one of the strangest-looking moons I've ever seen.
I took these photos between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. last night.
The moon looked so dark when I first started taking photos,
I was afraid I wouldn't get any usable photos at all.  There were also thin clouds around,
just enough to fuzzy up the atmosphere at first, but later becoming thick
enough to blow everything out.
Maybe tonight I'll try and get some photos of the moon appearing as just the 'regular' Harvest Moon.  I found the color of last night's moon awe-inspiring and, as I was taking photos, I couldn't help wonder how terrified a person would have been by a moon like this six or seven hundred years ago...

Chasing Faeries

"Malcolm, what are all these sparkly things?" said little Randy.
"They're Light Faeries, little brother," replied Malcolm. "And, they're verrry tricky to catch."
Alyce came in and looked, and listened, and sniffed.  Then she said, "Randy, these aren't Light Faeries.  They have no scent, they make no noise...they're just dots of light from the kitchen window."
Randy said, "But, but...I almost caught one!  I...oh, there goes another one!"
Malcolm said, "Alyce, I'm older than you, and I know these are Light Faeries.  Now, out of the way, little sister."
"Boys...big or little, they never listen!"

Faeries Friday - Miss Bunn's Opinion

Hi - I'm Miss Fae Bunn, of the Alabama Bunns.  (If you're a human Alabama Bunn, we are not related). You might remember me from that tea party some time back?  Anyway, I just thought I'd drop in and say "Hey."  I sure am sad to see the summer leave...oh, I know Victoria, the lady whose studio I live in from time to time, loves the autumn and the winter, but not me.  Nooo, Bubba!  I like late spring and summer.  I mean, look at these flimsey lil' clothes I'm wearin'...not exactly cold weather attire, and faeries don't have as big a wardrobe as you might think.  I'm real glad Victoria keeps the studio warm!  So, bye for now.  I'll see y'all when the Lady of Spring starts bringin' the flowers back!

Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.  John Updike

Raining is what the sky is doing here today, thanks to Hurricane Linda.  It's been raining since around two this morning...such blessed relief!  The horror of what has happened in Northern California could, all too easily, happen here.  The fires are still raging there, we're all hoping they get rain soon, too.

I could swear I heard the whole mountain sigh with relief when the rain started.  We've received a little over three inches so far and the rain is supposed to continue, intermittently, through tomorrow.  Maybe fire season is over for this year!

A Quote for Monday

The only words that ever satisfied me as describing nature are the words used in fairy books; charm, spell, enchantment.  G.K. Chesterton

The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise.  It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us.  Ashley Montague
